This practice, which is widespread in the Scandinavian mountains but little known in France, is somewhere between cross-country skiing and ski touring.

While cross-country skiers glide on groomed trails, Nordic tourers ski on natural terrain with gentle to moderate slopes, usingwider skis with metal edges. This is skiing on large, undulating expanses, high plateaus and wooded valleys.
In theheart of the Clarée valley, you'll find several itineraries, some of which are part of the Haute Route des Escartons linking Queyras to Névache, via Cervières and Italy.
