what we are we talking about?
Les Transhumances Artistiques
The Serres Lez'Arts and Grandeur Nature associations have built a joint project around cultural activities. The result is Les Transhumances Artistiques.
A cooperative model embedded in the local fabric with the participation of its members, the town council and local residents. An initiative that aims to open up the cultural sector by encouraging encounters and raising awareness of environmental issues.
Every autumn, between three and five artists come to flesh out the art trail with their creations from the previous spring. The only constraints on the creations are that they have to last three years outdoors (subject to various weather conditions).
In mid-September, the project takes shape. The artists stay with local residents for three weeks. It's an ideal time for exchanges and encounters. Locals, students, craftsmen and artists come together in a spirit of encounter and sharing.
The new artists 2024
This year, three new works will appear along the route...
Stéphanie Cailleau
Throughout our conversation, her hands work almost instinctively on felting a vine. A project with wool is not Stéphanie's first attempt. This raw, universal material from a rural culture has appealed to her for over fifteen years.
The wool is then washed, carded and finally felted. It's this last stage that particularly inspires the artist. Soap, water and lots of elbow grease for rubbing. Then, the magic (the more rational call this process "chemistry") happens. The material conglomerates and the fabric can be worked like a paste. During this process, other materials can also be added to the wool, but the result will be random, which is what Stéphanie likes.
So, are you going to take part?
Pierre Guilloteau
In Puy-Saint-André, Pierre arrived one day to work on the canals. This irrigation system transports water to the shared gardens. A nice metaphor for the network he created that day.
This day of solidarity enabled him to forge links with local residents while learning about the technical constraints of the area. His mind was then set in motion... Could he improve the existing plastic channels, using local materials that could be removed during the winter season?
The answer came fairly quickly. He then set off to meet the craftsmen to find the raw material. Trunks of different sizes to hollow out, a beautiful larch plank to engrave the faces of the day shared... We'll let you discover the result for yourself.
Roger Rigorth
Between stone and wood, Roger offers a singular experience, often soliciting the participation and imagination of passers-by.
Transhumances Artistiques led him to detach: Trans-Human. Or the human being and his transformations. Changes and reflections are part of the improvement process in a person's life. And what better way to represent transformation than with a cocoon? In reference to the caterpillar and the butterfly, human beings evolve to become better versions of themselves. Through his art, Roger takes us on a reflection on communication between living beings, but also on a journey of introspection.
What do you imagine inside this cocoon?
