Today is the first hike in a refuge, and we're following the different stages to make sure we're well prepared and informed. Today's refuges are designed to offer comfort to both novice and experienced hikers. However, it's important to bear in mind that these accommodations remain isolated and operate according to different rules from those of traditional hotels.

Lesson # 1 Proper preparation and equipment

For Vincent and his friends, it's their first hike in a refuge, and they're perfectly prepared for it.

Of course, before setting off, they made sure to find out about the weather, as well as the difficulty and duration of the route.

In their bags, they packed everything they needed (not).

Before leaving, they booked overnight stays and meals with the janitor, because they know that in these remote places you have to plan ahead.

What's more, they are perfectly aware that in most cases there is no mobile network in the mountains.

Lesson # 2 Living together

Once in the refuge, they adapt to the rules of communal living in this collective environment.

They arrive in time for the evening meal, which is served at a fixed time, and chat a little with their table-mates, but they don't make any noise late at night, as they know that some people get up early.

And as they fall asleep, they wonder if they remembered to close the fences on the way up?

Lesson #3 Reduce your environmental impact

The refuge is not a hotel, with different codes and comforts.

The EDF didn't make it this far, of course, but that's okay, because they charged their cell phones before going up and took a small headlamp to save energy in the evening.

The shower is in fast mode because water is a precious resource everywhere, but especially at altitude.

And the garbage truck doesn't come, of course, so they take their garbage down in their backpacks.

Lesson #4 Preserving nature

On respecte l’environnement dans lequel on évolue.

Toutou stayed at home because he's not allowed to walk in protected natural areas, otherwise the marmots and chamois get scared.

The Bluetooth speakers stayed with doggie.

Vincent and his tribe follow the trails well, but it would be a shame to crush the pretty flowers.

Respecting the codes of refuge living and mountain hiking makes the experience more pleasant for everyone. Make yourself and those around you aware of the need to enjoy exceptional moments in the heart of a preserved and enchanting natural environment.
