The paradise of Nordic skiing

In the High Valleys—La Grave, La Clarée, and Izoard—five Nordic ski areas await you. In total, there are 170 km of cross-country ski trails bathed in fresh air, surrounded by nature, and offering mountain views under the generous sun of the Hautes-Alpes.

Welcome to the land of enchanted northern domains, where freshly groomed trails are as soft as corduroy, and tree branches bend under the weight of snow, dressed in their finest white coats.

The Savage

On the edge ofOisans, there's a hint of Canada in the air...

Between Villar d'Arène and the small hamlet of Arsine, the trails wind their way between rivers, fields, and groves, beneath the towering peaks of the Écrins. Thanks to the Romanche River and its location at the bottom of the valley, the snow stays cold and offers a wonderful skiing experience in this wild Nordic area.

Beneath the majestic slopes of the Écrins, chamois sometimes come down to lower altitudes to nibble on the last blades of grass. So keep your eyes peeled and enjoy the show!

Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of the legendary Upper Valley (at an altitude of 2,000 meters) and the Col de l'Échelle pass (at 1,800 meters), where forests, pristine landscapes, and the gentle melody of the Clarée river come together. The resort offers slopes for everyone, from green for beginners to black for enthusiasts.

The secret

The Cervières Nordic ski area offers a vast playground, with 53 kilometers of trails spread across two sectors: Le Laus and the Fonts Valley.

In the Laus sector, the trails wind through the heart of the forest, where calm and serenity reign. In February, the Fonts Valley opens up to you, revealing an atmosphere of the end of the world where unspoiled nature rivals wild beauty.

From the village of Cervières, a challenging climb along the Cerveyrette river takes you to the Bourget woods and pastoral hamlets, witnesses to a timeless Alpine heritage.

P.S.: After your Nordic getaway, reserve a wood-fired leg of lamb at the L'Arpelininn or stop for a gourmet meal at the Petit Cerf – Mountain Lodge.

The panoramic view

A stone's throw from Briançon, the Villard-Saint-Pancrace Nordic ski area offers an enchanting setting, alternating between a vast larch forest and breathtaking views of the majestic Montbrison massif.

Its 36 kilometers of trails wind their way from the heights of the village, crossing meadows and forests, to the charming alpine chalets. Along the way, the view of the Vauban fortifications adds a spectacular touch to the experience. The Marsenche trail is lit for nighttime outings. The red and black trails, as well as the shared routes, cross the large forest that overlooks the village.

P.S.: Once a week, your four-legged friends are invited to join in the fun with slots reserved for dog sledding.

Shared itineraries Shared itineraries

What are they? Shared trails are groomed wilderness trails that can be used for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking.

Thanks to the shared itinerary, you can explore the Haute Clarée. The steep peaks of the Cerces massif contrast with the gentle river and alpine chalets with their preserved traditional architecture. At the end of the valley is Laval, with its chalets and numerous (unmarked) trails in the upper valley. In Fontcouverte, you can stop for a gourmet break at La Fruitière, which serves delicious, comforting mountain dishes.

On the Izoard side, the eponymous pass will be a daunting challenge! Whether on foot, cross-country skis, snowshoes, or touring skis, the 8 km route winds through a larch forest with views of the Napoleon refuge, where refreshments and a mandatory blueberry tart checkpoint await!
