La Combe Saint Martin on snowshoes
This itinerary takes you to the heights of the hamlet of Roubion, through ancient clapières, then into the pine forest marking the start of the Clarée state forest, right up to the Roubion torrent.
Description
Departure is from the Champ Bellet ski lift cabin.
It's also possible to start from the Nordic chalet (main parking lot at the entrance to the Roubion hamlet), but it takes around 15 minutes longer.
On the snow front of the "Champ Bellet" green run, look out for the ESF kindergarten (heading north-west), a wooden sign with a snowshoe logo and the word "D2". It marks the start of this itinerary.
After crossing the "Les Combes" cross-country ski trail, continue until you cross it again. Do not take the ski trail, but follow the snowshoe signs.
Leave this open area and enter the pine forest. After a short climb (and an oratory on your left), cross the Roubion torrent. Climb slightly (approx. 100 m), then cross flat for approx. 300 m, still in the forest, before descending to the cross-country ski trails. At this point (you can use a table under a tree as a marker), turn right onto the pedestrian/racket trail, which leads back to the starting point on a level path over the "Robichet" bridge.
Just below the bridge, you'll see the Vitrolles vacation center, whose round structure makes it an unusual building in Névache. After the bridge, please walk along the left-hand side of the trail shared with cross-country skiers.
SIGNAGE :
Orange signs with snowshoe logo, fixed to trees.
Please note: the signs are only clearly visible in the intended direction of travel (departure from the ski lift, heading towards the forest/summits).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The snowshoe itinerary crosses the cross-country ski trail several times, so be on the lookout for skiers arriving at high speed.
In the event of an accident, call 112, giving details of the route you are on and, if possible, your location, so that the first-aid team can come to your assistance.
Snowshoe trekking requires a minimum of skill and equipment, even on routes marked by the piste service. Likewise, weather conditions can change rapidly in the mountains. Check with the piste service before setting off.
If you're a beginner, it's advisable to ask a professional to accompany you.
Additional welcome
Signposted itinerary in the Nordic area. You will be guided by orange markers. In the event of an accident, the ski patrol will be there to help you.
