Sitting on a rocky promontory overlooking Briançon, Saint-Pierre church is of rather simple construction. Restored in 1902, it is appreciated for its clarity and elegance.

Description

The church of Puy-Saint-Pierre was built in the 15th century and refurbished in the 16th century following a fire during the wars of religion. A stone, to the left of the entrance door, engraved in part in Provençal, commemorates this fact.

On the wall of the bell tower, you can see a sundial whose motto invites you to meditate on the passing time.

Inside, you will find a church consisting of a central nave flanked by two side chapels. The gallery of the Penitents, located above the nave, houses the instruments of the brotherhood.

Do not forget to cross the adjacent cemetery to reach the cross, at the foot of which you will find the tomb of Maurice Petsche, a high-alpine personality, to admire the view over Briançon and the Durance valley.
