In a setting surrounded by nature, among chamois and marmots, along the riverbank and near the legendary Lautaret Pass, Pauline and Willy at the Gîte du Pas de l’Âne welcome you to their authentic and welcoming guesthouse and inn.

Le Pas de l’Âne lies at the foot of legendary peaks—“La Meije,” “Les Agneaux,” and “Le Lautaret”—in the town of Villar-d’Arêne, a rural mountain village steeped in history and tradition. Located on the GR 54 trail and serving as the starting point for numerous hikes toward the headwaters of the Romanche River and high-altitude mountain huts (Alpe du Villar, La Chamoissière, Adèle Planchard, Le Pavé, and L’Aigle).

We offer comfortable double and quadruple rooms with private bathrooms, as well as dormitory-style accommodations with shared bathrooms on the landing.
We provide bed linens and bath towels.
We offer a half-board option, as well as our menu of 100% homemade pizzas, main dishes, and desserts!

WINTER: The Pays de la Meije Nordic Area, where you can go sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and Nordic walking. When conditions permit, there’s a small outdoor ice rink behind the lodge where you can rent skates. The location is ideal for families.
Nearby: The lodge is a 10-minute drive from La Grave, home to the Meije Glaciers cable car. A 15-minute drive away is the village resort of Le Chazelet, facing due south toward the Meije glaciers.

SUMMER: tennis, via ferrata, climbing school, hiking in the Écrins National Park, exploring exceptional flora and fauna at the Col du Lautaret Alpine Garden, discovering edible plants on the ethnobotanical trail (starting across from the cottage), and exploring high-altitude lakes (Pontet Lake, Arsine Lake). A 10-minute drive away, access to the Meije Glaciers cable car with a visit to the ice cave at an altitude of 3,200 m, rafting on the Romanche River…
