Iknow how to find my way around

Hiking on these forgotten trails requires particular attention to orientation and the ability to read a hiking map.

These trails led to alpine hamlets that are now in ruins or no longer as important as they once were. Nowadays, people only go up there occasionally. This "occasional" use is not enough to maintain a trail. So it is gradually disappearing. In some places, it still forms a pretty serpentine path, well worn by the passage of so many feet, but then it disappears from view, only to reappear a hundred meters further on. When you stray from the well-trodden paths, you are likely to find yourself alone in the mountains, in the company of marmots and other regulars.

Go on a day with good visibility and take your guidebook and the IGN Valloire 3435 ET map with you.

In the mountain pastures of La Grave and Villar d’Arène, several old trails have been marked out by the Chemins d’Avant association.
