Evarist Chancel Mountain Hut

Evariste Chancel refuge (2508 m) has 39 beds and is located on a terrace overlooking the valley of the Romanche river and La Grave village, where you will enjoy a magnificent viewpoint over the valley of the Haute Romanche.

Description

In summer, the refuge can be reached from the cable car station along the Puy Vachier lake (1 h). For the more sporty, there's also a trail from La Grave (3 h). Easy routes.
With half-board at the refuge, get a discount on the return cable car ride to the 2400 station.

*In summer from the refuge:
Mountaineering: le Râteau, le Pic de la Grave.
Hiking: Col des Ruillans, Brêche Pacave.
Fishing: Puy Vachier lake.
Mountain biking: For the more adept, there's a mountain bike track leading to the refuge.

In WINTER, the refuge is accessible only by skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers. The snow is ungroomed, the trails unmarked, and it's this difference that attracts true mountain lovers.

In winter, the last ascent with the Glaciers de la Meije cable cars is free if you buy a ski pass for the following day!

Attention during Winter opening and closing dates are subject to change due to weather conditions. It is highly recommended to call before boarding and being accompanied by a mountain guide or a French Ski Instructor.
