Brèche Pacave cable car departure 2400
From the 2400 m cable car station, crossing the Brèche or the Col de Pacave means venturing into the high mountains and discovering the north face of the Meije.
Description
On leaving the cable car, take the path that winds around the back to Lac de Puy Vachier.
At the lake, follow the path to the Evariste Chancel refuge, but do not turn right at the next junction to the refuge. Turn left and head due south.
Aim for the breach in the Pêyrou d'Amont ridge: the inconspicuous path weaves its way between boulders and patches of snow to reach the height of the breach. Cross horizontally to the left and reach the pass (alt. 2840m).
The return journey follows the same path as the outward journey.

It's advisable to check the snow conditions at the summit before taking this route, especially as the markings become less visible in the moraine at higher altitudes, requiring good orientation skills.
