The ice cave of La Grave

Description

Just a 10-minute walk from the arrival of the Glaciers de la Meije cable car, it's a wonderful discovery for everyone. The ice cave is only open in summer. In fact, the cave lies under several meters of snow during the winter.

It descends 24 m a year and comes to rest on a flat part of the glacier, which puts it under compression: the galleries close in, the sculptures become deformed and the cave tends to tilt, reducing the slope inside and limiting the drainage of water seeping through the crevasses. Working with nature means adapting!

The round trip by cable car is added to the price of admission to the ice cave, and both must be paid for at the cash desk below.
